Adult Circumcision

A guide on the adult circumcision procedure. Review the information below and if you are happy with the outlook of our service, you can book an initial consultation with Dr Kamrul Hasan to assess your circumstances.

Procedures for adults

Adult Stapling Device

The GOLD standard of Circumcision procedures. The Adult Stapling Device simplifies the operation, with a short operating time and less surgical trauma to the area. This is a very safe and easy application, leaving a tidy cut with minimal scarring. The staples used fall off on their own without the need of revisiting the surgery.

Glue Technique (with fast dissolving sutures)

The Freehand Method of circumcision or sleeve resection is what is generally offered in the NHS for Adult Circumcisions. It involves excising the foreskin either freehand or using a clamp technique followed by bringing the edges of the inner and outer foreskin together with sutures (+/- glue).

Adult Shangring

A single-use, disposable device that consists of two concentric plastic rings. Once applied it stays on for 1-2 weeks and then must be physically removed. It is not our 1st choice device for adult circumcisions. There are more disadvantages than advantages to this device and many patients who have used this device have said they would not recommend anyone using this device.

All 3 techniques give excellent cosmetic outcomes

However, the vast majority of Adult Circumcisions in our Clinic are conducted with the Stapling Device now as this offers the best outcome in terms of cosmesis.

Some of the above techniques may not be suitable if you have a very tight Phimosis or suffer from Balanitis.

If you have any specific problems such as balanitis or any other foreskin problems, we will need to discuss this further. The fees may be slightly different and certain of the techniques described above may not be suitable for you.

The procedure is carried out under a Local Anaesthetic, and you will not have any pain during the procedure. It takes most Adults 6-8 weeks for recovery, but most Adults can return to work within 2-3 days. Avoid any sexual activity for 6 weeks.

We DO NOT charge extra for the surgical Glue and our surgical technique ensures no stitch marks are left giving you unsightly scars - this is almost certainly something you will get from someone who lacks surgical expertise such as if a GP or Accident & Emergency Doctor was to perform your surgery (just two examples). Community circumcisions are mainly performed by these two groups of doctors. There is also NO additional charge for the removal of the Frenulum. We also do NOT charge extra for tight Foreskin (Phimosis). Most clinics do.
